Position Summary:

The Deputy Director of Grassroots Advocacy and Engagement is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, and coordination of grassroots mobilization activities and community organizing. The successful candidate will collaborate across departments and functional areas under the supervision of the Director of Grassroots Advocacy and Engagement to design and implement non-partisan grassroots initiatives that build momentum among Community Health Centers (CHCs), state/regional Primary Care Associations (PCAs) and Health Center Controlled Networks (HCCNs).


Key Responsibilities:

·       Support the planning, implementation, and coordination of all grassroots activities for NACHC:

    • Collaborate with NACHC’s function areas to educate, inspire, and mobilize health center stakeholders in advocacy issue campaigns.
    • Support the development and implementation of advocacy leadership development programs.
    • Work with NACHC's policy staff and communications teams to develop compelling advocacy strategies, content and engagement.
    • Work across function areas to increase PCA engagement with Quorum, NACHC’s advocacy database.
  • Develop measurable short-term and long-term advocacy tactics to support NACHC’s policy goals: 

o   Help identify leverage/action points for grassroots mobilization.

    • Develop tools and resources to support advocacy education and effective response to federal and state advocacy campaigns.

·       Build advocacy communications strategy and ensure effective implementation:

o   Help coordinate flow of communications to the field and manage capacity of advocacy platforms.

o   Support the publication of weekly advocacy e-newsletter.

o   Identify best practices to strengthen NACHC’s online community and approve implementation of social media posts and efforts.

o   Edit advocacy materials and presentations to ensure lay readers can understand and act on shared information.

o   Assist with implementation of advocacy engagement initiatives including national fly-ins, webinars and National Health Center Week.

·       Support NACHC’s work with CHCs, PCAs and HCCNs to develop their capacity to implement state, local, and national advocacy efforts:

o   Help coordinate a national community organizing strategy with state leaders.

o   Facilitate virtual and onsite trainings to increase advocate participation and engagement.

o   Build trusted relationships and share campaign strategies and resources to increase engagement of state-level advocacy leaders.

·       Support grassroots logistics for NACHC conferences, organizing/training and national fly-ins:

o   Brainstorm and implement creative ways to engage conference attendees in developing advocacy leadership skills, including education sessions, signage/messaging and awards/public recognition.

o   Provide administrative support and planning for NACHC’s Advocacy Task Force. 

·       Help negotiate NACHC online advocacy technology contracts and build vendor relationships:

o   Manage agreements with affiliates on NACHC’s advocacy platform (Quorum) and other programs. 

·       Collaborate with other NACHC function areas to coordinate and implement National Health Center Week (NHCW):

o   Managing NACHC’s sponsorship matching process for NHCW events, including collaboration with corporate partners.

o   Developing the annual NHCW theme, messaging and associated collateral materials.

o   Assist in coordinating NACHC staff travel to and participation in NHCW events.


General Professional Development:

·       At least three years of related work experience that includes communications and/or grassroots advocacy and organizing experience.

·       Commitment to NACHC's mission and goals.

·       Public policy or Hill experience a plus


Professional/Technical Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

·       Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

·       Working knowledge of WordPress, Elementor, or other website editing tools.

·       Working knowledge of Quorum, SparkInfluence, or other advocacy platforms.

·       Familiarity with lobbying rules for 501(c)(3) organizations.

Salary: $100,000-$130,000
